The most exciting and stressful time of your campus life is placements season. The thing that occupies most of your time during this tempo is discussions about jobs and the future. Your first job is a launching pad for you and you should choose wisely. There is an emotional roller-coaster when the interviews with the companies do not go as you wanted them to be. Sometimes, it also goes as you thought it would and you get the job offer. As the world is changing every minute what fits you now might not be what you want in a couple of months. The right approach to this is to plan and prepare.
1- What do you want?
There are a lot of your friends who might be talking about the well-known startups that are hiring or consulting jobs. There might be some who have no clue or any criteria for their choice. In the middle of all this, step out of the chatter and think about yourself. You should know what is herd mentality and recognize what you want. Think about things like, are you likely to enjoy the work content and lifestyle that this particular job offers you? Shortlist your priorities. You will gain career success in your area when you are counted on your strengths and what you enjoy rather than what everyone else is rooting for.
2-Your biggest strength
Each individual has their own strength and uniqueness in a particular field. You should know the strength and capability in you that makes differ from others. Understand the elements in your life that make you shine out and give your 100%. This can make you clear in your mind about what you actually want and if the job offer is right for you or not.
3-What matters the most
The main criteria of being successful is to be happy with what you are doing. Good money does not always mean job satisfaction; you would be willing to accept less to join a work environment that is similar to your personality and where you feel the most comfortable.
Take some time to think about your personal values and your interests and compare them with your job description. Do they seem to prioritize what you are looking for? Ask yourself what is important to you and what you can give up for the job that you want.
Every job that you do should grow your knowledge in all directions. Remember that you are accepting a job so that you can grow with the company. If there is no such opportunity offered by the company then the job offer might not be worth it.
